How Alkaline Foods Fight Off Cancer

Cancer has become a boundless killer in our society. In fact, some 1,529,560 new cases and 569,490 deaths were predicted to occur this year in the United States alone. While it may be true that medical science may currently extend the lives of cancer victims, avoidance of this disease is most advisable. What is cancer really? We learned back in biology 101, that cancer begins in the cell. When cells become, damaged, overwhelmed by toxins or old they can mutate and divide uncontrollably. Not all mutated cells become cancerous but there are more than 100 different types of cancer of the human body. As cancer cells multiply they can invade other tissues and spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph system.

A normal cell is surrounded by a cell membrane. It is the cell membrane’s job to allow fluids to flow in and out of the cell. It allows oxygen and nutrients to enter the cell and waste products to flow out. When things begin to go awry for a cell, the cell membrane is affected first. This cell then loses its ability to receive oxygen and forces the cell to revert to a more primitive survival mechanism. The cell becomes anaerobic. The new anaerobic cancer cell can’t be repaired because fermentation of the cell is not reversible. So what you have is an anaerobic cancer cell that thrives in a low oxygen environment; it multiplies and is out of control.

What are alkaline foods?

Dr. Otto Warburg, a two-time laureate, of Germany, discovered the central role of oxygen deficiency in the cancer process. He proved that cancer could not exist in an alkaline environment. In others words, a bodies acidic environment might be considered a cancer magnet. When we are born we enter the world with a pH of near or at a neutral level. If you are able to maintain a pH or 7.0 or higher it will be difficult to get sick.

With the billions of cells in our body even normal cells metabolizing, creates acid waste. When seeking to maintain a more alkaline pH you need to remember there are two types of acid and alkaline foods.

  1. Foods that actually contain acid or alkaline.
  2. Foods that form acid or alkaline when digested or burned. When foods are digested the ash left behind can either be neutral, ash or alkaline depending mainly on their mineral composition. Foods that have high acid ash (acidosis) can result when there is a depletion of alkaline reserves. The body reserves alkaline to offset the effects of acid forming foods. However these reserves can be depleted.

Our foods are loaded with acid forming substances. They are even in our water and air. Soft drinks especially colas with a pH of 2.5 are extremely acid forming. An alkaline diet holds more than 20 times the amount of oxygen than its acidic counterpart and cancer cannot live in this oxygenated atmosphere. An alkaline diet is also beneficial for many other diseases besides cancer. Giving your body the best alkaline balance will require you to eat foods that are highly alkalizing while avoiding those acidifying ones. You can purchase test strips to determine your urine pH.
